The songs of youth
Celebrating International Children's Day on Saturday, the Shanghai Children’s Foundation, the China Welfare Institute and the Baotong Primary School have sent out an invitation to the public to create lyrics for children.
The event is the 26th since it began in 1986 in an attempt to produce songs of good quality for children.
This year, organizers are calling for lyrics with a pig theme as it is the Year of the Pig in the Chinese calendar. They are also looking for songs that are short and easy, featuring the spirit of modern times and themes that are close to children’s lives and hearts.
People of all ages are welcome to send their original lyrics, in Chinese or other languages.
Outstanding songs will be published by CWI Press and can win prizes of up to 3,000 yuan (US$435).
Applicants should send their works to firstname.lastname@example.org by June 30. The results will be released in October.
