Children are our hope and our future
City officials celebrated with local youngsters to mark Children's Day on Saturday.
Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang and Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong attended the 8th Shanghai Young Pioneers' Congress at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, along with other officials.
Many ingenious inventions and discoveries from local children were showcased at an exhibition on the sidelines of the congress.
The exhibition about the development of the Shanghai Young Pioneers during 40 years of reform and opening-up also included paintings, mud sculptures and other creations by the youngsters.
After visiting the exhibition, Li praised the children's innovative ideas and achievements. He encouraged children to cherish their youth and study assiduously to contribute to China's development.
Li told the younger pioneers that children and young people represent hope and the future, and that he was sincerely happy and cheering for them.
Li and other city officials awarded the outstanding young pioneers and instructors. The best proposals sent by delegates of the congress were also awarded.
Over 1,700 representatives of local young pioneers, instructors and relevant workers attended the congress.
