Tickets went on sale on Saturday for the panorama section of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival. The fest will run from June 15 to 24.

A total of 40,252 tickets were sold in just the first minute after online ticket sales began at 8am on dianying.taobao.com. Thirty minutes later, more than 200,000 were sold. 

Many film enthusiasts also went to local theaters to snap up tickets. At 10am, cinemas including the Shanghai Film Art Center, Tianshan Cinema and Peace Cinema also started to sell tickets.

Among the most popular movies are Japanese comedy “The Confidence Man JP,” Chinese animated classic “Uproar In Heaven,” American thriller “Interview With the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles” and Italian drama film “Cinema Paradise.”

Loyal movie fan Fang Tingrong now in his 70s has attended the film fest’s panorama every year. He bought tickets for the French comedy “The Black Tulip,” American documentary film “Free Solo” and Japanese musical film “Dance With Me.”

This year more than 500 movies — classics and new productions from all over the world — will be screened during the festival at 47 cinemas across the city. Movie stars will also attend some of the screenings and interact with the audience.
