The first triplet otters born in East China greeted visitors at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in the Pudong New Area over the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

The two male and one female Oriental small-clawed otters were born at the park on February 28.

Oriental small-clawed otters, a second-class nationally protected animal in China, are the world's smallest otter species.

They are fed chicken and salmon as well as fruit and vitamins, while the temperature in their enclosure is kept between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius.

One week after birth they were already playing in the water with their mother, keepers said.
