A Shanghai resident is one of the many people who donated blood on Friday, World Blood Donor Day.

City celebrates World Blood Donor Day

World Blood Donor Day was celebrated in Shanghai on Friday with the health authority announcing that city residents had given 359,400 blood donations last year.

However, the donation rate for every 1,000 people was 14.86 times a year, lower than the average 32.1 times a year in developed countries and regions.

The Shanghai Blood Center said blood donation needs to have the support of everyone in society.
