Shanghai should brace for heavy downpours overnight, the local flood-prevention authority said late on Thursday.
The authority said the precipitation will be 40 to 70 millimeters, and the figure could reach 100mm in some areas.
The rain is expect to linger until Friday noon.
The authority has readied its emergency service plan, with bump stations and maintenance staff on standby for the next 24 hours.
