Four outlets of convenience store chain FamilyMart and a branch of Shanghai budget chain hotel Hanting in Xuhui District were exposed by authorities on Thursday for irregularities regarding garbage sorting.

The four outlets of FamilyMart on Luocheng Road, Longchuan Rd N., Shilong Road and Humin Road had failed to set up garbage bins for different types of trash, according to the Xuhui District Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau.

The Hanting hotel on Luoxiang Road was found to have the same problem.

They were among 13 venues taken to task by the bureau on Thursday, following inspections conducted between June 5 and 12. They were either ordered to rectify their mistakes or fined.

The culprits also included the Chuanfulou hotpot and Shanghai Babitang Pet Hospital Co Ltd.

Companies and individuals who refuse to sort garbage will be listed on the city's public credibility platform from July 1, when Shanghai's first domestic garbage regulations come into effect.

Currently, enterprises can be fined up to 500 yuan (US$72.9) for failure to have correct trash bins in place, and up to 1,000 yuan for failure to sort waste.

From July 1, the fines will be raised to 5,000 yuan and 50,000 yuan, respectively.

Individuals can be fined up to 200 yuan for failure to sort garbage.
