Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong and his delegation visited Egypt from Monday to Thursday, witnessing the signing of the strategic cooperation agreement between Shanghai-based SAIC Motor and Mansour Automotive Group on Monday.

SAIC Motor and Mansour Automotive Group formed a joint venture sales company and signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on a manufacturing JV.

The Shanghai municipal government supports the development of SAIC in Egypt and hopes the JV project can be a model for corporate cooperation between China and Egypt, Ying said.

The mayor met with top leaders of Cairo and Luxor during the trip. Liao Liqiang, China’s ambassador to Egypt, was also present.

Under the framework of the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership, we will seize the opportunity of “One Belt, One Road” construction with Cairo, strengthen cooperation in trade, economy, culture and tourism, and promote mutual benefit and win-win results in accordance with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, Ying said. Cairo and Egyptian companies are welcome to participate in the 2nd China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai, he added.

Ying said that the Hamrawein power plant, being built by Shanghai Electric Group and Dongfang Electric Corp., is of great significance. He hoped that Shanghai Electric will strengthen cooperation with relevant enterprises, complete project construction with high quality, promote economic and social development in Egypt, and benefit the local people.

After completion, the Hamrawein power plant will be an ultra-supercritical, near-zero polluting coal-fired power generating unit with a total generating capacity of 6.6 GW.
