Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station sent off its 400 millionth passenger on Wednesday morning.

The 100 millionth passenger came 44 months after the station opened in 2010. Last October, the station welcomed its 300 millionth passenger.

In less than 10 years, the station has gone from sending off an average of 25,000 people a day to almost 200,000 a day, making it one of the busiest stations in China.

When it first opened, Hongqiao Railway Station only had train routes going to nearby provinces.

With the development of China’s high-speed trains, Hongqiao Railway Station became the hub of eight major train routes across China. More than 550 trains come and go.
