Qingpu rolls out construction plans in delta integration bid
Qingpu District is striving to become the demonstration area for the integration of the Yangtze River Delta.
On Wednesday, it announced a new round of infrastructure and service construction plans for 128 major projects worth a total 145.8 billion yuan (US$ 21.2 billion).
These projects cover almost every aspect of people’s daily lives and business environments for enterprises.
Several headquarters of high-tech and high-end manufacturing companies, including Huawei and listed CHC Navigation, are setting up in Qingpu, said Zhao Huiqin, Party secretary of the district.
The district has invested 35 billion yuan to build industrial parks and R&D centers for the companies.
“We all know Huawei has released a series of plans for the industrial chain of communication technology,” said Yu Xufeng, director of Qingpu District. “How we can help companies to further push the industrial agglomeration in the delta region is something the district is working on.”
To cater for the expected influx of workers and their families, the district is planning to build more apartments.
Qingpu is also working on making the district greener and cleaner and has invested 16.8 billion yuan in treating water and planting trees.
“Water in Qingpu is crucial because the water that runs through the district is one of the sources for the city’s drinking water,” said Yu. “But the water from upstream in Jiangsu and Zhejiang (provinces) is used for fish farming.”
Yu said the different water usage had caused problems for the district's water treatment.
But with the integration of the delta, the water authorities from different regions can now share data and launch joint inspections along the rivers.
