Rainy days, but we will have clean air
The plum rains seem to be never-ending and the first week of July will still be wet with temperatures in the 20s, forecasters said.
On Sunday, the city woke up to a thunderstorm and downpours.
The local weather bureau said the plum rain belt has formed a "train effect" — different thundercloud clusters roll above a place one after another, which is like different train carriages passing the same station.
A yellow lightning alert was announced while the rainstorm alert was upgraded to orange on Sunday morning, the second highest in a four-color system.
The central and southern areas received most of the heavy rain.
By 9am, the main Xujiahui weather station in downtown Xuhui District had recorded a downfall of 127.9 millimeters — the highest of all districts. Pudong was second, with 118.7 millimeters.
On Monday there will still be some showers and the wet weather will continue through the whole work week.
On Wednesday and Friday we will see thunder and lightning again.
Southern Shanghai will still be the most-affected area on Monday, but the rainfall will moderate.
The mercury will range between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius through Friday.
Due to the rain, the air will be clean at least for the next three days.
