Shanghai Theater Academy held a special theater class on Monday for its Party members to celebrate the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1, 1921.

The class was the academy's answer to President Xi Jinping’s call on artists in the country to strengthen confidence in Chinese culture.

From varied perspectives, it interpreted how local artists can create inspiring and innovative works in the modern era.

Episodes from the academy’s latest theater productions, such as dance dramas “Red” and “Jasmine,” were also demonstrated.

Officials from the academy said they will combine more artistic elements of theater, dance and recital with such kind of classes in the future to introduce the best of Chinese culture to its faculty.
