eSports, film sectors get policy boost in Yangpu
Yangpu District has issued new policies to attract and support companies in the eSports, film, television and Internet audio-visual industries.
The policies cover office space, operational costs and talent introduction, support in construction of eSports venues and cinemas, as well as rewards for technical breakthroughs.
Yangpu District used to be the center of the city’s economic growth. The district is home to many universities and innovative companies. Old factories have become innovation parks and the new policies are in line with Shanghai’s ambition to become a world eSports, film and television center.
eSports, film, television and Internet audio-visual firms registered in Yangpu can enjoy subsidies when buying property, or a 30 percent discount when renting. They are encouraged to introduce technical and managerial talent, who will be offered various health, accommodation and visa incentives. Broadcasting platforms are encouraged to introduce frontier technology from overseas and to work with universities and local research institutions. The district commercial department will open green channels for company registration.
eSports products should showcase Chinese culture. Companies taking part in the organization of eSports competitions, exhibitions and forums in Yangpu will receive subsidies. Those setting up eSports clubs will have their players’ training costs partially covered.
Film, television and Internet audio-visual firms will be rewarded if their products win recognition at film and television festivals. Companies are also encouraged to organize large-scale film and television festivals, exhibitions, competitions, forums and roadshows.
As an example, an “Honor of Kings” eSports exhibition will be held at Yangpu’s riverside area from the end of July with the cooperation of Stream Interactive Entertainment and Shanghai Yangpu Riverside Development Company. The exhibition, providing visitors with interactive visual and audio experience, will last for three months.
