Children's accident prevention center launched in city
Local hospitals are warning parents and children about the increased risk of accidents and injuries during the summer holiday after seeing a big increase in the number of patients.
The Children’s Hospital of Fudan University said on Thursday that its emergency department has received over 1,500 cases of children involved in accidents from June 21 to Tuesday. Injuries included fractures, brain injuries and other accidents.
The hospital said it received 45,377 children with accidental injuries in 2017 and 2018, including 667 with serious injuries. Falls and traffic accidents were the leading causes.
To try to improve the situation, the hospital launched a charity program called “Children’s No Accident Day” on first week in July last year.
This year, the hospital teamed up with other charity organizations to establish a children’s accident prevention center on Thursday to help reduce children’s accidents in the city.
"Accidental injuries are a public health problem and many accidents are preventable. We want to education to prevent such accidents," said Dr Xu Hong from the hospital.
