A man who threatened and assaulted at least seven elderly people in a town in Jinshan District has been arrested, Jinshan District People's Procuratorate said on Thursday.

Bao demanded money from the victims and damaged their property. He threatened to kill them if they reported him to the police.

According to prosecutors, one of the victims, Ye, ran a chess and card room in the town. Two years ago, Bao showed up asking to "borrow" money from him. After Ye rejected this request, Bao drove the seniors playing cards away. Believing that Bao was about to assault someone, Ye gave him some money.

Bao returned for money very often. By November last year, Ye had "lent" him more than 2,000 yuan (US$290) but never received any repayment. Due to the poor business, Ye had to close the chess and card room.

Bao then visited Ye's home and continued to demand money, so Ye installed a security door to protect himself.

Another chess and card room owner, Gou, had a similar experience. Bao often made trouble at her chess and card room. She was also beaten by Bao.

On May 4 this year, Bao went to a butcher's store and threatened the owner with violence, claiming to have been in prison before and now had nothing to fear. On the night of the same day, Bao assaulted another victim and the next day attacked a sanitation worker.
