Man held after stabbing boy outside art school

Police say the suspect, who had traveled to Shanghai by train on Wednesday, was talking incoherently while being questioned.

A 25-year-old man has been held after stabbing a 10-year-old boy outside an art school in Jiading District on Thursday afternoon, Shanghai police said.

The incident took place outside the school at 3658 Huyi Highway.

The injured boy is being treated in hospital. 

Police said they received a report at 2:45pm and the suspect surnamed Fan, who is from Sichuan Province, was caught at the scene.

Fan had traveled to Shanghai by train on Wednesday, police said, adding that he was talking incoherently when being questioned.

The investigation is still ongoing.
