A man has been caught allegedly defrauding people with offering of concert tickets, police said on Tuesday.

A woman surnamed Cheng told police in the Pudong New Area she had lost about 7,000 yuan (US$1,038) to a person she got to know on WeChat.

After she failed to get a ticket for a concert of popular Taiwan singer Jay Chou, he told her he could get two tickets if giving extra 1,000 yuan for each ticket.

However, after she paid the money the man, who is surnamed Yan, couldn't be reached, police said.

Through WeChat and banking records, police tracked the suspect down and caught him in Shenzhen on July 9.

Yan is said to have confessed.

However, an investigation is still underway, police said.
