Man detained for dorm theft

A man who disguised as a student to steal a computer from a university dorm has been detained, Pudong police said on Tuesday.

A student reported his computer missing on July 4 and police soon spotted a suspicious character on surveillance camera footage.

Dressed in a white T-shirt and with a backpack, he lingered in the stairway of the dorm for a long time. Students told police they didn't recognize him. 

Police said that when they tracked down the man, who is surnamed Zhang, on July 11 he had the stolen computer with him. 

Police said he had confessed and told them he had pretended to be a student in order to steal more easily.
