Hotels get all-clear from inspectors
Shanghai hotels censured for providing guests with disposable items they hadn't requested were reinspected by authorities and found to have fixed the problem, officials said on Wednesday.
Disposable items include toothbrushes, combs, sponges, razors, nail files and shoe-shine pads.
Eight hotels had been issued with rectification notices since July 1, when the city's new garbage-sorting regulations took effect.
Six have been reinspected so far and all had fixed the problem, said Wang Ying, an official with the city's culture and tourism administration.
The hotels included the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Shanghai, Pudong, The Longemont Shanghai, JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square, Regal International East Asia Hotel and Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Oriental Shanghai.
The hotels had been warned they could face fines of between 500 yuan (US$72.7) and 5,000 yuan if they continue to provide disposable items under the new regulations.
During the reinspections, the Wyndham and the Ritz-Carlton were found to lack no-smoking signs in prominent positions and were ordered to rectify.
