Shanghai's guqin artists will be joined by other traditional artists in some performances.

Ten guqin performances, workshops and lectures will be held in Shanghai from August to November to promote traditional Chinese art and music.

Guqin, a plucked seven-string Chinese instrument, has traditionally been favored by scholars and literati as an instrument of subtlety and refinement.

The guqin-themed series of activities herald the opening of a new art project entitled "Artree," a joint effort by Shanghai Grand Theater and Huangpu District aimed at popularizing art, especially traditional and ethnic art.

The program will feature local guqin artists in varied genres alongside Kunqu Opera artists, pingtan storytellers, painting and poetry in some performances, lectures and workshops.

A “Hundred Guqin Falsh Mob,” scheduled for late November, will serve as the finale to the guqin-themed activities. Some 100 guqin artists and amateur players will gather at Shanghai Grand Theater for a performance.

Citizens are encouraged to share their stories featuring guqin in the form of photos, essays, videos and hand-drawn comics, which can be sent to info@sgtartsgroup.org.cn. Selected participants will be awarded guqin training courses.
