The Shanghai company of Japanese cosmetics brand Pola has been fined 200,000 yuan (US$28,988) for fake promotion.

The Pola Form volume essence cream weighing 120 grams sold by the flagship store of Pola on Tmall was promoted as preventing hair breakage.

However, the product is a cosmetic without special function, the Huangpu District Administration for Market Regulation said.

The company promoted it as a cosmetic with special use, which was a fake advertisement, the administration said.

It was also ordered to stop publishing illegal advertisements and clear up the ill effects.

In another case, the Chuansha outlet of supermarket chain Lotus in the Pudong New Area was fined 50,000 yuan for selling expired food.

Two packs of bread sold at the outlet had expired for more than 20 days, officials of the Pudong New Area Administration for Market Regulation found.

The canteen of the Shanghai Oriental Green Land sports training base in Qingpu District was fined 50,000 yuan after authorities found in May that its food operation license had expired nearly one month ago.

However, it was still operating, according to the Qingpu District Administration for Market Regulation.

The illegal sales volume was more than 250,000 yuan, but there was no illegal profit because the canteen supplies food to staff of the base and athletes.

In a separate case, the Shuangqiao Road outlet of Shanghai Suning convenience store was fined 50,000 yuan in Pudong after its beer was found to have expired in May, according to the Pudong administration.
