Chill out, it is time to cool down

Another cooler week is on the cards with the mercury expected to range from 26 to 34 degrees Celsius and a few brief showers triggered by the periphery of a tropical storm.

After a wet and cool weekend with showers, this week will be mainly cloudy with mild temperatures, forecasters say.

The weather bureau says a subtropical high pressure system will move north early this week. Easterly winds will continue, keeping temperatures down.

By mid-week, the city may be affected by newly formed tropical storm Lekima, the ninth this year.

Lekima's brother, eighth tropical storm Francisco, will affect Japan and South Korea.

The fallout from Lekima will bring Shanghai more clouds, some showers and stronger winds.

At 5pm on Sunday, Lekima was 1,360 kilometers southeast of Taipei. It is moving north at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour and growing stronger, the National Meteorological Center said.

The 13th solar term liqiu, or the start of autumn, begins on Thursday. But real autumn is still far away — that requires five consecutive days below 22 degrees on average and generally arrives in October.

Last year, Shanghai entered autumn on October 5.
