It's blooming lovely across Shanghai
Parks across Shanghai are hosting a variety of events ranging from flower exhibitions to DIY activities to night tours this month.
The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District will stage a month-long water lily exhibition from August 18, featuring 300 varieties, according to the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.
The water lilies will be showcased in seven exhibition areas. Some 160 are tropical varieties with 20 varieties on display for the first time.
On the opening day, a lecture on the different varieties and origins of lilies will be held.
Another lecture on edible aquatic plants will take place at the garden on August 25. Attendees are also able to taste fresh aquatic plants such as water chestnuts.
About 100 varieties of grass are at their best in the garden.
The garden is also hosting 15 camps allowing children to get close to nature. These include science classes, 4D movies about plants, games and greenhouse visits.
A summer flower exhibition covering 20 hectares will run through the end of August at the Shanghai Botanical Garden. The Rose of Sharon variety will be showcased.
The garden in Xuhui District is hosting an exhibition featuring plants that catch and eat bugs. The display will run through September 17.
An activity inviting visitors to make flower bookmarks will be hosted at the garden on August 20.
Night tours will run through August 25 at the Shanghai Zoo in Changning District.
A lecture on lesser pandas, raccoons, raccoon dogs and giant pandas will be held at the zoo on August 17.
A tea ceremony appreciation event will be held at Jing'an Park on August 23. A lecture on the stories of plane trees in Shanghai will take place at the Xujiahui Park in Xuhui District on August 8.
A noontime concert is being held at the central green space of Lujiazui in the Pudong New Area on Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August. A flower art DIY event will be hosted at the Zhangjiang Park in Pudong on August 25.
Folk cultural activities to honor Li Daiwen, a Songjiang calligrapher and a patriotic government official during the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), will be held at the Fangta Park in Songjiang District on August 14.
A lotus exhibition will be held at Zuibaichi Park in the district.
The Changfeng Park in Putuo District will host a summer flower planting lecture on August 18, while another lecture on flower arrangement will be hosted at the Luxun Park in Hongkou District on August 11.
A flower painting activity will be held at the Baoshan Binjiang Park on August 22, and a DIY event on how to make clay flower pots will take place at the Guyi Garden in Jiading District on August 10.
A guided tour to learn about different plants at the Qingxi Countryside Park in Qingpu District will be organized on August 23.
