The latest arrival at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park is the son of Lu Lu and Xiao Jian.

A South American sea lion was born at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in the Pudong New Area, the first in Shanghai.

He was born on July 7, and the period between June and August is the traditional breeding season of sea lions, according to the park operator.

The father of the sea lion cub is Lu Lu and the mother Xiao Jian.

Sea lions are a second-class nationally protected animal in China, and mothers of newly born sea lions do not allow strangers to approach.

Animal keepers have prepared a dry room with good ventilation for the family, with the temperature kept around 26 degrees Celsius.

The room is disinfected every day, and there is round-the-clock care and observation.

Health checks for the cub are conducted regularly.
