A total of 190,471 people went through Shanghai customs on Monday, a record high, immigration authorities said on Tuesday.

The authorities said this was the result of Typhoon Lekima and the summer travel peak.

The number beat the record set on February 11 this year, which was the first day after the Spring Festival holiday, when over 170,000 went through.

A total of 143,320 people went through customs at airports and at the city's international cruise liner port, 35,550 tourists arrived on three cruise liners that were scheduled to dock last weekend but were turned away due to the typhoon.
