'Monkey King' Peking Opera album released

A photo album of the “Monkey King” Peking Opera shows was released during the Shanghai Book Fair on Monday. 

The volume was complied by Yan Qinggu, a third-generation student of the Zheng School of Peking Opera, founded by master Zheng Faxiang, who depicted Monkey King many times on stage.

In 2016, Yan started to produce and present a “Monkey King” Peking Opera series, and won widespread acclaims from both critics and audiences for his superb martial arts skills and exquisite sets.

The album includes Zheng and his students’ photos and stories, some from decades ago, and records the origins, development and distinctive artistry of the “Monkey King” in Peking Opera.
