Job training taken up a notch
Shanghai’s industry workers will have 300 tailor-made skill and career centers thanks to a program introduced by Shanghai General Trade Union this year.
So far, 124 such centers have been established around the city in companies, skill training centers, vocational schools and other institutions, the trade union said on Monday.
Based on their qualifications and programs, the centers are given up to 50,000 yuan (US$7,000) to cover the cost of equipment, textbooks and teaching aids.
Among the established centers, 59 are in private companies and institutions. All of the centers are available free of charge to everyone.
Interested companies can apply for the fund as long as they have a room of at least 50 square meters for the purpose and ensure that at least 1,000 people are served annually. The companies are also required to have leading technicians and experts from both their own and other institutions to tutor the users of the centers.
