Woman steals from sleeping victim
A woman who confessed to putting sleeping pills in a man’s beer before stealing his cellphone and transferring 50,000 yuan (US$7,116) from his WeChat account has been arrested for robbery, Xuhui District People's Procuratorate said on Monday.
Last year, prosecutors said, the 29-year-old had been sentenced to three years in jail with a three-year reprieve for robbery by Changning District People's Court.
Prosecutors said that a Beijing man surnamed Wu and the woman surnamed Meng were WeChat friends. They met each other on May 30 when they had dinner at a hotpot restaurant and drinks in a pub. At about 2am, Wu felt drunk and returned to his hotel on Hengshan Road in Xuhui District with Meng.
When Wu woke at 6am, he found Meng had gone and his iPhone and cash from his wallet were missing. He also discovered that someone had transferred 50,000 yuan out of his WeChat account.
Wu contacted WeChat and was told his money had been transferred to Meng's account. Wu contacted the police.
They soon tracked the woman down to her home on Beijing Road W.
Meng is said to have confessed to the crime and told police that due to a lack of money, she had bought six sleeping pills to commit a robbery. She said she used WeChat to befriend Wu. When they met, she slipped the ground-up pills into his drink after he went to the restroom.
She followed Wu to his hotel room and, after he fell asleep, used his fingerprint to unlock his cellphone and transfer the money in his WeChat account to hers.
