A local training institution whose teacher molested four students, all minors, has paid each of them 40,000 yuan (US$5,601) in compensation as well as apologizing to them following mediation, prosecutors in Changning District said on Monday.

The male teacher was jailed and banned from jobs related to education for five years after his release.

According to the Changning District People's Procuratorate, the man, surnamed Liao, was employed by the institution as a calligraphy class teacher in August 2017. He molested the four students between August 3 and October 18 in 2017.

After Liao was sentenced, the victims' families accused the training institution of hiring an unqualified teacher and one who had a record for similar offenses at other institutions.

The families took the training institution to court in a civil lawsuit, demanding compensation for their mental suffering. After mediation by Changning District People's Court the institution agreed to compensate the families.
