Shanghai’s police stations are getting more user-friendly than ever with a photo booth appearing in Zhoupu police station in the Pudong New Area on Monday.

Residents who forget to bring photos when applying for new ID cards, driving licenses and passports can take their own picture on the machine right next to the counter.

Users simply enter their ID card number, take a photo, and it will be directly uploaded to the police information system for an automatic check, taking just a few seconds, Pudong police said.

A resident takes a photo inside the photo booth in Zhoupu police station on Monday.

The machine also allows users to print their photos.

“Sometimes it is annoying when you come here to apply for some documents only to find you forgot your photos,” said Yu Qinghong, an officer at the station.

Li, who lives nearby, came for a new ID card on Monday and took a photo for his driving license.

“It’s very convenient to complete the whole thing in such a short time, especially after I lost all my personal documents yesterday,” he said.

Zhoupu police station now handles 15 traffic police related issues, five exit-entry issues, seven public security issues and 25 household registration related issues.

Pudong police said the photo booths will be opened soon in more police stations in the area.
