Residents will be able to follow the city’s legislative process on their mobile phones in the near future, according to Shanghai People’s Congress on Wednesday.

The mobile version of the official website of the Standing Committee of Shanghai People’s Congress, the city’s legislature, will be upgraded.

Currently the mobile version only shows news. Next year, residents will be able to submit suggestions and opinions about laws being made, according to Xu Shiping, president and chief editor of eastday.com which runs the bilingual website http://www.spcsc.sh.cn/.

Ding Wei, director of the committee on legislation work of the standing committee, believes residents should have more accesses to the legislation process.

“Up till now, the solicitation of public opinions on bills of laws is unsatisfactory, and it has become necessary to build new bridges between the legislature and the public,” he said.
