Up for the challenge? Try the J.P. Morgan race
Registration for the ninth J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge is now open. This year, it will be held at the Shanghai International Music Village on Thursday, November 14, at 3pm.
The annual 5.6-kilometer event regularly attracts over 5,000 runners and walkers from more than 200 companies, who find time to step away from their desks for some fun, fitness and camaraderie with their colleagues.
This is the first time that the race has been held at the Shanghai International Music Village, where the wide, flat race course and stunning views will offer an unparalleled experience for all the participants.
“We are very excited that the Corporate Challenge is returning to Shanghai for its ninth consecutive year. Shanghai is an important part of our 13-city, seven-country, five-continent celebration of corporate fitness and camaraderie. It is heartening to see so many companies take part and make it one of the most popular after-work events that promotes well-being and a work-life balance in the workplace,” said Mark Leung, CEO of J.P. Morgan China.
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge will continue its long-standing tradition of supporting charities in countries where its events are held. Last year, the firm donated on behalf of each entrant to the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation (YouChange Foundation) in the launch of a cross-border e-commerce workforce training program, which assists the underprivileged young students to find job opportunities in the emerging e-commerce industry. The 2019 beneficiary will be announced prior to the race night.
Times to beat in the Shanghai Challenge
Last year, Jiang Yingli, representing Shanghai Disney Resort, covered the 5.6 kilometer course in 22:32 to win the women’s individual title. Wei Wenzhong, running for the Bank of Communications, earned the men’s crown in 18:34, the fastest Shanghai finishing time since 2015. Joe Burnett of AECOM holds the record at 18:09, while Sarah Edson of English First has the women’s record, 21:25 — both set in 2012.
The Corporate Challenge welcomes racers, joggers and walkers, and this is reflected in the median times for 2018. The 964th male out of 1,929 finishers clocked 37:48, with the 992nd female of 1884 had a time of 47:56.
