Party Secretary Li meets trio of top WAIC guests

Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Co-founder and Head of Sequoia Capital China Shen Nanpeng.

Li warmly welcomed the three guests who attended the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which kicked off in Shanghai on Thursday.

He introduced Shanghai’s strategies for new economy and AI development, saying he hoped to enhance technical exchanges and global cooperation to boost the city’s construction of a national AI highland and a global center of economy, finance, shipping and sci-tech innovation.

Li Yong said that the UNIDO has a long-term cooperation with Shanghai. The organization will actively respond to Shanghai’s scientific technology center construction and offer support in technical exchanges and standards setting.

Musk was impressed by the speed of construction and approval procedure for Tesla’s Shanghai plant. He hoped to bring more new technologies, products and projects to the city.

Shen said that Sequoia Capital China mainly focuses on investment in information technology, life science, industrial manufacturing and other areas, much similar to Shanghai’s industrial orientation. Next, the company will help the city promote cutting-edge technology transformation and fundamental research in AI development.
