A grand float parade on Huaihai Road M. will open the 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival on the night of September 14, Shanghai's cultural and tourism authorities said on Friday.
The event promises to be a feast for the eyes, with floats representing the culture, scenery and charms of tourist destinations from around China.
The parade will feature 25 floats and 33 groups of performers from home and abroad, the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism explained.
The float representing Yuexi County in east China's Anhui Province will focus on its mountainous landscape and tea culture, while the float from Qingxi in Shanghai's suburban Fengxian District will feature a picturesque scene of peach blossoms and traditional houses of white walls and black roof tiles.
The float of Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will display a blending of Eastern and Western civilizations from the days of the ancient Silk Road, and the float of Wanzhou in southwest China’s Chongqing will feature its grand waterfall, riverfront, lakes and bell tower.
Zunyi City in southwest China’s Guizhou Province will use its float to showcase itself as a destination filled with patriotic significance.
Neighboring Zhejiang Province's Lishui City, which has forest coverage of 81.7 percent, will offer a scene of green mountains and clear water in its float. It will also highlight the city's culture of porcelain and stone carving.
Shanghai Disney Resort's float design will gather a number of star characters such as Duffy and ShellieMay. The Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park's float will feature under-sea wildlife.
The floats will tour districts across Shanghai from September 15, with stops scheduled for the Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall and Hongkou Football Stadium.
From September 29 to October 6, they will be at the Yuehu Sculpture Park in Songjiang District.
Residents can also vote for their favorite float design.
This year's Shanghai Tourism Festival, the city’s biggest tourism extravaganza, will run from September 14 to October 6.
A hundred activities will be held throughout the festival.
Some activities are specifically designed for overseas tourists and expats, including longtang (alleyway) tours in Jing'an District between September 15 and 20, and a carnival for expat families on September 15 at the Huacao International Community Cultural Activity Center in Minhang District.
