A thousand electric taxis from local taxi firm Qiangsheng will hit the streets ahead of the second China International Import Expo, the company said.

The new fleet of green and yellow Roewe Ei5-400 taxis will have a stronger battery and more room inside compared with those added last year for the first CIIE.

The company said the new cars need only 30 minutes to recharge to 80 percent of full power. Once fully charged, they can run for 400 kilometers.

The cars will have a flag-fall price of 16 yuan (US$ 2.3) before 11pm and 18 yuan after that time.

Qiangsheng has also mobilized 700 taxi drivers to form eight teams to serve CIIE visitors exclusively. Its call center 62580000 will also operate 24/7 during the expo.

The company said is expects to provide about 15,500 trips for expo visitors this year, 35 percent more than last year.

The company is also to coordinate with taxi firms Dazhong, Haibo, Jinjiang and Yinjian, to ensure sufficient taxis during the event.
