Qingpu District is striving to bring water quality in 95 percent of its waters up to standard by 2025 with forest coverage 20 percent for Yangtze River Delta ecology integration, Jiang Aifeng, the district's deputy head, said on Thursday.

Qingpu will also cooperate with Suzhou's Wujiang District and Jiaxing's Jiashan County to unify ecological and environmental standards, ecological monitoring systems and environmental supervision law enforcement.

The three areas under collaboration will promote the treatment of some interprovincial rivers and lakes such as Taipu River and Dianshan Lake to build a "clean water corridor" and a "100-mile green belt."

The district will carry out pollution control on the sources of pollutants and by the end of this year will complete a grade-2 water source conservation zone and rectify 194 factories and companies' pollution problems.

It will speed up establishment of a "green financial demonstration zone" and boost development of ancient towns in western Qingpu to form a waterfront old town ecological and cultural tourism circle in the Jiangnan area.

It will accelerate the construction of projects such as the Shanghai Lansheng Fudan Middle School's Qingpu branch, Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University's Qingpu branch, Dianshan Lake Social Welfare Institute and Qingpu Sports and Culture Center.

A research center on Jiangnan culture will also be built for Qingpu's construction of a Jiangnan culture demonstration zone.

The construction of 5G base stations, 5G basic facility management platform and programs on smart transport and education will also be pushed forward based on the district's 2025 smart city plan.
