A calligraphy, painting and photo exhibition opened at the Jade Buddha Temple on Sunday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The exhibition to open to public for free through October 5 features over 100 works from local calligraphers, painters and artists.
They were invited by the Juequn Calligraphy and Painting Institute, founded in the temple in 2016, to illustrate the development of the city and the changes of people's life.
They include traditional ink paintings of rivers and mountains as well as paintings and photos of city landmarks.
Chen Xiejun, the former curator of Shanghai Museum and a member with the institute, created a painting about the museum. Local artist Cheng Duoduo painted the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in a traditional ink painting style.
Paintings of other landmarks, such as the memorial of the First National Congress of Communist Party of China, the Bund and Shanghai Disney, are also on display.
Built in 1882, the temple itself is one of the city’s most popular sites, attracting 1.2 million visitors a year.
