Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi in Shanghai on Saturday.

Li warmly welcomed the Iraqi leader on behalf of Shanghai people and government, and introduced the local economic and social situation to the distinguished guests.

Li said that Shanghai is willing to strengthen cooperation with Iraq in various fields, while supporting local enterprises to invest in Iraq and make contributions to the welfare of peoples of the two nations.

The two parties (China and Iraq) should further deepen bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the fields of economy and trade, infrastructure, energy, education and humanities, Abdul-Mahdi said, adding that his country welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in the construction in Iraq to achieve a win-win situation and joint development.

Zhang Tao, Chinese ambassador to Iraq, and Shanghai leaders Zhuge Yujie and Xu Kunlin were also present at the meeting.
