Songjiang District, relying on its patent application industry, was selected among the national intellectual property pilot development cities (districts) recently, the third such shortlisted district in Shanghai. The development period will last from June to June in 2022.

So far, Songjiang has two national intellectual property model companies, eight national intellectual property competitive companies, 55 city-level model companies and 120 district-level model companies.

By the end of May, Songjiang had 35,341 effective patents and its effective patent number per 10,000 people amounted to 43.29 items. Its annual patent application number and award number has been in Shanghai’s top four in the past six years.

The district aims to raise technological innovation in its patent application industry before 2022 to ensure high-quality development of its G60 High-tech Corridor, an urban-rural development axis to connect Songjiang with eight cities in the Yangtze River Delta.

To achieve this, the district will focus on developing industries such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, new energy and energy saving.
