A keeper runs the rule over the new baby.

Shanghai Wild Animal Park in the Pudong New Area announced Saturday that it has welcomed a new baby giant panda.

Now 16 days old and in fine fettle, the little boy, mother Si Xue's second offspring, weighed 198 grams after his second day.

Keepers say that mild-mannered Si Xue is taking good care of her son.

In October 2017, Si Xue gave birth to Xue Bao, a genuine star at the park now and an active extrovert. Xue Bao is always up to something new, the park operator said.

Now home to seven giant pandas, the park's population is expanding quickly with a new cub born every year.

The park was designated a giant panda reserve in 2016, with a  pigeon pair — a male and a female — born in the park of October that year.
