A musical evening pays tribute to voice coach Jiang Ying at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

A musical evening showcasing the life of Jiang Ying, a voice coach and wife of Chinese scientist Qian Xuesen, was held at the Qian Xuesen Library at Shanghai Jiao Tong University as part of the ongoing 2019 Shanghai Tourism Festival.

Vinyl records were played as the lives of Jiang and Qian were shown on the screen to mark the 100th anniversary of Jiang's.

The vinyl, collected by Jiang, included an album by American singer Paul Robeson called "Chee Lai" which means "stand up." The climax, the March of the Volunteers, the national anthem of China, was recorded in 1935.

The "old vinyl" event has become a staple of the tourism festival, which centers on haipai (the unique Shanghai-style culture of East-meets-West) music.

An exhibition of over 200 photos of Jiang will run through the end of October at the library.
