Healthy lifestyle makes for heart health
People over 40 years old should have cardiac health checks once a year, doctors said on World Heart Day, Sunday.
More young and middle-aged people are suffering coronary diseases. Many people fail to pay enough attention to their occasional heart pains or chest distress. They may suffer heart attacks during exercise or emotional distress, doctors said.
“Young people have many unhealthy habits impacting on their heart health, such as poor diet, stress, lack of sleep, smoking and drinking alcohol. They are all risk factors for heart health and may trigger negative events,” said Dr Song He from Shanghai Yodak Cardio-Thoracic Hospital.
Song asked young people to be more aware of viral myocarditis.
“We see many such cases in patients between 20 and 40 years. Viral myocarditis is a serious complication for people who didn’t go to hospital for treatment or take enough rest after a viral cold,” she said.
