World Cities Day hosted in Russia on Oct. 31
The sixth World Cities Day will fall on October 31 this year.
The global event host city will be Yekaterinburg, Russia, and the Chinese event host city will be Tangshan in Hebei Province.
This year, the theme of the WCD is “changing the world: innovations and better life for future generations,” according to the United Nations.
The city will organize various events in October to celebrate the WCD, including city orienteering for teenagers, lecturers, seminars on urbanization and a mask design competition.
Conferences discussing urban development and creative culture will also take place in Shanghai.
As one of the most important legacies of the World Expo held in Shanghai in 2010, World Cities Day was proposed by Shanghai at the closing ceremony of the Expo. In 2013, the UN decided to set October 31 every year as the World Cities Day.
