Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Andrew Hamilton, president of New York University, in Shanghai yesterday.

Speaking to his guest, Li said that Shanghai will further expand the opening up and cooperation in the field of education and better cultivate and gather first-class international talent.

Shanghai will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of education between China and the United States with a more open attitude, he revealed, adding that thanks to the joint efforts of both parties, Shanghai New York University has shown a good momentum of development since its establishment. “We welcome New York University and Shanghai to deepen cooperation, work together, and strive to create a successful example of Sino-US humanities exchange and education cooperation,” Li said.

On his part, Hamilton promised to make every effort to push forward the development of New York University in Shanghai, and make active efforts to promote exchanges and cooperation between the US and China in the field of education, and to build a solid foundation for friendly relationship between the two peoples.

City leader Zhuge Yujie also attended the meeting.

Hamilton was in Shanghai for a board meeting of Shanghai New York University.
