About 30 government officials, textile industry insiders and researchers from Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos are in Shanghai to attend a nine-day seminar at Donghua University.

During the 2019 Advanced Seminar on Promotion of Development Capacity in Textile and Garment Industry for Lancang-Mekong Countries, the attendees will attend lectures by professors from the university and senior industry experts. They will also visit Chinese textile and garment enterprises to learn about the latest technologies, industrial upgrades and policies.

“With all the activities, we wish to share China’s experiences in policymaking, innovative development, international cooperation, smart manufacturing, industrial cluster development and performance of social responsibilities in the textile and garment industry,” said Wu Xiaojun, director of the seminar program. “By doing so, we hope to promote common development of the textile and garment industries and economic prosperity in countries along the Lancang-Mekong River. It will also provide a solid foundation for cooperation in the industry between China and these countries at a higher level.”

One attendee, Nguyen Van Tuan, chairman of the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association, said textiles and garments are a key industry in the Lancang-Mekong countries. He said the seminar provided a chance for him to learn more about China and for all the attendees to discuss further cooperation and development.
