Tribute Paid to New Fourth Army
A memorial event was held at the New Fourth Army square in Fushouyuan Cemetery in Qingpu District over the weekend with a statue of commander Ye Ting unveiled.
The life of Ye (1896-1946), military strategist and the first commander of the New Fourth Army, and the history of the army was celebrated during the event, which was attended by about 700 people.
Attendees, including former soldiers, paid tribute to the deceased, with urns of about 1,700 Army soldier interred at the square since it was built 14 years ago, and the names of about 7,000 soldiers are engraved on the heroes' wall.
