Authorities from the city of Yuhuan, in neighboring Zhejiang Province, invited Shanghai residents to discover its annual pomelo tourism festival, taste its fresh seafood and appreciate its natural beauty and local culture during a promotional event in Shanghai on Thursday.

Yuhuan will launch its annual pomelo tourism festival on November 6. The festival will feature pomelo-picking tours, seafood tastings and fishery culture displays, the city government announced in Shanghai. The festival will run through December 31.

A number of tourism projects in Yuhuan such as the Ganjiang coastal scenery belt and the southern Damai Islet coastal scenery belt were also unveiled by Yuhuan authorities, who are seeking investment and business cooperation.

The promotion aims to deepen tourism cooperation between Shanghai and Yuhuan, and introduce Yuhuan to more Shanghai tourists, said Li Danjia, vice mayor of Yuhuan City.

Cooperation agreements were signed between travel agencies in Yuhuan and their counterparts in Shanghai during the event.

Yuhuan, which is a three-hour drive from Shanghai, boasts fresh seafood from the East Sea and a unique fishing village culture.

It is home to the scenic Dalu Island, the Xuanmen Bay National Wetland Park and Xuanmen Bay Sightseeing Agricultural Garden.

Between January and September, Yuhuan received 9.16 million visitors, up 13.82 percent from the same period last year. It also pulled in 10.08 billion yuan (US$1.42 billion) of tourism revenue during the period, an increase of 15.8 percent.
