Putuo gears up for import expo
Officials from foreign consulates, chambers of commerce and companies visit an exhibition about the latest economic and urban development in Putuo District on Friday.
Officials from foreign consulates, chambers of commerce and companies in Shanghai attended an investment promotion meeting in Putuo District ahead of the second China International Import Expo.
From 10 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan and Singapore, they visited an exhibition at the Universal Software Park on the latest economic and urban development in the district.
Putuo attracted 258 foreign projects in 2018 with contractual foreign investment totaling US$1.9 billion, Wei Jing, Putuo's deputy director, told the officials at the Investment Promotion and Matchmaking Conference on Friday.
Over 5,000 officials from companies intending to make purchases at the expo had applied to take part in the event by the end of September, an over 40 percent increase on last year, said Wei.
The total intended transaction amount from companies in Putuo is expected to exceed that of the first expo in 2018, she told the officials.

The district has been offering tailored services for major buyers at the expo, including German wholesaler Metro AG and French supermarket giant Carrefour. Many private, foreign and small and medium enterprises have been invited to attend the expo as potential buyers.
The district government has established nine special teams to serve expo participants from home and abroad. Food safety, special equipment and public sanitation have been overhauled. The district's cultural and entertainment sites, travel agencies, sightseeing spots, stadiums and hotels have also been inspected.
The district has prepared three sightseeing routes for exhibitors to learn about the district’s core industry, cultural heritage and future development.
The guided tours, along with a series of investment promotion events, aim to further promote the business environment of Putuo and strengthen exchanges between the district and trade groups at the expo, according to the district government.
The routes include the Suzhou Creek Culture and Fashion Zone, Fintech Park, M50 art hub, Jade Buddha Temple as well as innovative projects such as Taopu Smart City and the China-Israel (Shanghai) Innovation Hub.
