Model families honored
A total of 326 model families were honored by Shanghai Women’s Federation over the weekend.
They included Zhou Yucheng’s family, where five members are dedicated to the development of the country’s nuclear weapons.
Zhou and his wife Zhou Xingdi started to work at a nuclear weapon research base in China's northwest in 1959.
They slept in tents in the remote pastoral area at a height of 3,100 meters, where the average annual temperature is below zero degrees Celsius.
The 94-year-old conductor Cao Peng and his daughter Cao Xiaoxia are dedicated to helping children with autism through music.
In 2008, he established a music salon and taught autistic children to play musical instruments. Now, many of the members in the salon take part in concerts in China and overseas.
Others include a man who donated stem cells to a boy with leukemia, a grassroots official who works in community garbage sorting and a housewife who devotes herself to charity work.
