Safety checks on Huangpu stepped up
The marine safety administration of Minhang District is tightening management on the water ahead of the second China International Import Expo. Boats carrying hazardous objects or which have failed to install AIS systems (automatic identification) are suspended from entering Huangpu River.
Since October 11, the city's marine safety administration have been inspecting boats that have failed to install or properly use the AIS system. Ma Junhao of the Minhang administration said the water area in the district is the south gate of the Huangpu River and ensuring safety in the area is vital to keep the whole river safe during the expo.
The administration has deployed three inspection boats to patrol in the area and officers will intercept and board boats failing to pass inspections.
By October 20, 120 boats unqualified to enter the Huangpu River had been persuaded to leave, the administration said.
